While you are laying flat on the bench align the bar directly above you. Concentrate on lowering the bar to the mid point of your chest. Do not use momentum to raise the bar back to the starting position. Begin with a weight that will allow you to get 15 repetitions relatively easy. The rest of the sets will include using only enough weight so that you can only do 12,10 and then 8 reps. Each set should be done to a point where the next rep will be almost impossible to do without the aid of a spotter. To get completely comfortable with this exercise may take several weeks.

·Dumbbell Flyes

Dumbbell flyes is another great chest building exercise. Holding a dumbbells in each hand lay flat on the bench. Lower the dumbbells out to your side and down to the level of the bench with slightly bent arms. The lower you can bring the dumbbells the more stretch you will get.As you bring the dumbbells up to the starting position contract your chest muscles to get an unbelievable pump. Use the same amount of sets and reps as you did with the bench press. Your reps will be 15, 12, 10 and then 8.

·Once A Week

When building chest muscles you should only workout your chest muscles once a week to allow time for these muscles to rest and to grow. The amount of weight you can lift and the amount of sets you will do will depend on the foundation you have built for your self. Ideally you will want to begin going to failure on most of the sets that you do. Your ultimate goal is to go to complete failure for optimum muscle gains.
