So as my wife cries herself to sleep again as she enjoys yet another “fad diet” – “put the weight back on” cycle I have something to say to you fatties.

When it comes to being fat you have 3 options:-

1. Eat less
2. Move more

OR

3. If you’re not prepared to do either 1 or 2 or a combination of both then please shut the hell up about being fat. Learn to live with it and let the rest of us get on with living normal lives without having to listen to your shit about how fat you are.

The one thing that drives me mad about fatties more than the whinging about genes, glands and total under estimation of what they eat is the continued ignorance towards making the right lifestyle choices. There doesn’t appear to be any comprehension of the fact that little things can make a big difference.

For example I know one girl who has taken it upon herself to seriously watch what she eats, she is doing brilliantly in this regard – a real first class effort. On top of this she has also started going to the gym 3-4 times a week. Again this is great and it will no doubt help her achieve her weight loss goals. However with regard to the gym there are some issues because she is finding it a bit boring! I’m not that surprised, lots of people find the gym boring.

This is where lifestyle choices come into play. You see even though she is happy to watch what she eats and will drag herself down the gym she hasn’t actually changed her mindset one little bit. She has friends that live less that 200 yards away from her house and yet she’ll still insist on driving to go and see them. Ask her why she doesn’t walk and she’ll not have an answer for you. It’s the same with going to the shop or any activity that involves her getting of her ass. She doesn’t have to walk, she goes to the gym…..for now. Those tiny little changes can make all the difference in the future. The more you do the more you’ll find you are capable of doing. It’s just a case of breaking that mindset and thinking “healthy” in all parts of your life. If you can get that sorted then you might even find that after a while you don’t need to diet and that exercise becomes about getting fitter and not losing weight – the weight takes care of itself.

What I don’t know is how you go abut changing that mindset?

My wife is thinking about giving Lighter Life a go.

First of all I’d like to give you a little bit of history. My better half was a thin and sexy 9 stone when I first met her. She worked a couple of jobs and with having a daughter she didn’t have time for much more in her life. Food was basic, she smoked and she basically spent her life running around like a lunatic. Then I turned up, she could afford to lose the second job, she decided to give in the smoking, with married life came more in the way of family meals and a more relaxed way of life. As a result within 2 years she had “grown” to just under 13 stone. What to do?

Over the last 5 years she has tried every diet you can possibly imagine. Everything from Weight Watchers to some Paul McKenna hynosis crap, she’s done it all. And you know what, she’s never been able to lose the weight. Not keep it off for more than a few months anyway. To give you some idea just how bad it’s become she has even started smoking again, blaming her entire weight gain on giving up smoking and deciding that smoking was the road to thinness. I’ll let you guess how that has turned out?

So here we are looking at what’s left to try. I say we because I have to live with this just as much as she does. She’s not happy being fat but doesn’t have the will power to do anything about it – step in Lighter Life to the rescue – that’s what she thinks anyway. I’m a firm believer in eating less and moving more, but them I’m an old fashioned fart.

As far as I’m concernced this is going to be a massive waste of £65 a week. Starve yourself for a few months, get coaching (from somebody who is fat her self, how the hell does that work? I wouldn’t let anybody with a higher BMI than me tell me how to get thin – I’m not a mental) and the weight just goes. I’ve read plenty of reviews and it does seem to work, short term. This is the key, any old fool can strave themselves of calories and lose weight, you don’t get many fatties during a famine do you? It’s not a way of life though, that change can’t be taught, it has to be realised by the person in question. Lighter Life looks like just another way of becoming Lighter Pockets to me but being the sort of open minded fool that I am I’d love to hear some first hand experiences from people that have used Lighter Life. Preferably I’d like to hear from people who haven’t then gone on to become Lighter Life coaches, I’m not interested in your fatty sales speach – just some honest opinion on whether Lighter Life can possibly help with long term weight loss?

If you have been searching for a weight loss diet that provides great results, then you need to continue reading. There will always be many different weight loss methods on the market. However, using a weight loss diet is definitely the best idea. Many people have a hard time getting into shape. I am going to tell you why it is difficult for some people to lose weight. People who have used weight loss diets and have failed are using the wrong ones.

You will have to be smart when selecting a weight loss diet. The majority of diets on the market are scams, and the reason why they are scams is shocking to many people. In your past, you probably thought that a weight loss diet was only considered a scam if it did not help you lose weight. However, this is not what normally occurs. Most diets will help you lose some weight; however, they are helping you lose the wrong type of weight.

These diets are seen as scams because you will lose 70% water weight and 30% of fat. Here is an example of what actually happens. If you lost 10 pounds, 7 pounds of it would be water. With this data, it becomes understandable why so many people have trouble looking their best. Since they are losing more water than fat, it is harder to get fit. If you want to be skinny and be in shape, then you need a fat loss diet.

When you are looking for a weight loss diet, you should make sure that it is focused on fat loss. There is one main way to verify whether the diet is a fat loss diet or just a normal weight loss diet. If the diet is focused on giving you different meals consistently, then it is a fat loss diet.

When you consume different types of calories constantly, your body does not know how to process it. This leads to fast fat loss, and these diets are very successful. After looking into many diets, I consider fat loss 4 idiots to be the best fat loss diet on the market.

There is one demographic of the population that it has always been traditionally very difficult to sell a diet to…..men. Take myself for instance. When I made the decision to lose weight the idea of eating healthily made me feel sick to the pit of my stomach. I’d much rather eat normal food and do more exercise and I guess a lot of men are the same?

Not all though. All the way back in 2002 Men’s Health started an internet community for men interested in losing weight. Going by the name of the “Belly Off! Club” it has become a huge success. So much so that later this the Belly Off! Club will be launching the Belly Off! Diet in book form. Aimed at men it is fully expected to be one of the best selling diet books in America this year. So what’s inside?

Nobody knows for sure yet (it’s not out until April) but as an idea the Belly Off Diet involves some fairly common dieting techniques:-

- Eat Breakfast Every Day (One of my own favourites)
- Lift weights several times a week, preferably at least 3 times
- Cut out the refined sugars and fats

Like I said nothing earth shattering there. The big difference here should be in the way the book has been written. If it fulfils its promise it will no doubt be a huge success. There is the question though, as a fat man would you be happy to be seen reading it in public? And I don’t mean hidden inside your copy of Razzle!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday were all pretty much the same so I’ll not bore you with the details. I syuck to my eating plan, I stuck to my Wii Fit exercise plan and on each day I ended up with a nice calorie deficit.

I thought instead I’d use this post as a summary to how I did. Well I weighed myself last night on my fancy pansy scales and in the 2 weeks I was doing this I lost….3 pounds and 8 ounces. I am now basically the same weight as I was before Christmas…it only took 2 weeks to correct. Whilst I’m happy with my results they do pale a little compared to my wife who has been doing exactly the same thing as me (without the Wii Fit experimentation). Altogether in those 2 weeks she has lost nearly 6 pound. Think about that, that’s nearly a stone a month, eating what would be regarded as completely normal food. Neither of us has resorted to eating low calorie, no taste, diet muck. Over those 2 weeks there has been generous portions of sausage and mash, spag bol, chicken korma, sausage and chips, pizza. There hasn’t been one “diet” meal.

So there you go, a calorie controlled diet and exercise really does work. If it doesn’t work for you then I’m afraid you’re lying to yourself either about how much you think you eat or how much exercise you think you’re doing. Get the maths right and you will loose weight. For now though I’m looking forward to getting back in the gym tonight. Now I’ve got my body fat down to pre Christmas levels it’s time to start lifting some weights again.

Just on one final note, I bumped into a friend on Friday who was wondering why I was missing from the gym. When I explained he just laughed at the idea of Wii Fit as a fitness tool. He couldn’t explain why though, burning calories is burning calories, no matter how you do it!

Blah blah blah, not a lot to report about yesterday at all so I shall keep this short and sweet. Hmm sweet.

Cereal for breakfast, cereal for lunch and a lovely chicken korma for dinner. When I say lovely I should say it was lovely the second time around. The first time the rice didn’t exactly turn out the way I’d planned! (I blame the pan)

Soo not including the burnt rice which was quickly flushed down the toilet we have :-

1 x bowl of rice crispies = 210 cals
1 x large bowl of corn flakes = 300 cals
1 x chicken korma with long grain rice = 1000 cals

I had nothing to drink yesterday except water so again a very healthy 1510 calorie day.

In terms of my exercise I went back to my usual calorie burning Wii Fit regime. I’d done enough playing this week.

1 x lap of the island run
2 x 10 minute boxing
1 x 6 minutes hula
2 x set of 6 press-ups

Total calorie burn was 521 calories. That give me a total calorie deficit for yesterday of (521+2100) – 1510 = 1111 calories. I’m happy to report that I’ve also taken an inch of my waist since I started this.

(Today I blow my routine wide open, not only changing my breakfast cereal but also when I eat my main meal….the excitement).

Following on from yesterdays post where I talked about calorie burning potential of the various aerobic exercises on the Wii Fit I thought that I’d try the strength exercises to see if they burned calories.

Common sense tells me that this should be quite good, isometric exercise where you use your own body as a resistance tool has been banged on about for many years. It’s also quite well known that low weight high rep lifting exercises is one of the best ways of burning fat. But with all this in mind I’ve got to say that I was a little disappointed in the calories I burnt.

I spent 40 minutes yesterday going through the various strength training routines, sit-ups, press-ups and everything else in between. The great news is that it does elevate your heart rate to a pint that is useful in burning fat. The bad news was that in that 40 minutes I only managed to burn 290 calories. That’s considerably down on what a 40 minute aerobic session on the Wii Fit would be for me. I guess what I can draw from this is that if you primary concern is losing weight then it’s best to stick to the aerobic exercises I wrote about yesterday.

But anyway back to my 14 days of hell, or as I like to call it my new year routine. Yesterday passed by without incident. Breakfast went smoothly and was cereal, lunch I also had cereal. Seeing as how Mrs B had ingredients left over we had another soup night last night. More lentil soup and very tasty it was too. It’s also amazingly low in calories.

1 x bowl of rice crispies = 210 calories
1 x large bowl of corn flakes = 300 calories
1 x bowl of lentil soup with bread = 500 calories

I stuck to drinking water all day yesterday so there are no calories to add on for drinks giving me a total of 1010 calories for the day. That’s not enough, I need to eat more than that!

My exercise was the strength training I did on Wii Fit. That burned 290 calories onto which I add my daily 2100 allowance. Totdal calorie deficit for yesterday was 1380 calories! That’s huge!

I also decided to weigh myself again yesterday. My scales are showing that I’ve lost another pound so that’s 2 pounds in 10 days.
