So the wife has been on this weight loss study for a fair few months now. It started of great with her consistently losing weight and keeping a record of just exactly how many calories she was eating. When she went over 1200 calories one day the next she would cut back. She stuck to the plan like glue. Unfortunately though ever since we got back from Vegas things haven’t been as good.
Making a note about what you eat is a habit, it’s something that becomes routine. It is also the most important aspect of any diet plan that involves calorie counting, you need to have an accurate record of just what calories you’ve ate. Just before her last weigh-in I asked her about how she thinks she’s done and she replied “I should be OK, it’s not like I’ve been stuffing my face!”. It’s very true, she is incredibly disciplined in what she eats, however, unless you are writing it down it is very easy to lose track. The end result was that she has put on weight! It was a major shock to the system. Here’s a generalisation for you, if you don’t track what you eat you will ALWAYS eat more than you think. Sometimes a lot more.
So that weigh-in provided the extra motivation needed to get started again. Just in the last week she is already looking slimmer. So if you are thinking of doing a diet that relies on counting calories remember that the most important thing IS TO ACTUALLY COUNT THE CALORIES YOU’RE EATING! Guessing just doesn’t cut the mustard.
